Jonesboro, IL—September 10, 2020— In honor of Woodsy Owl’s 49th Birthday the Shawnee National Forest will host a self-guided Story Book Trail, Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20 at the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds, Jonesboro, IL. Start at the kiosk near the parking lot and walk along the path, reading the pages from Woodsy’s ABCs. Each page highlights a letter, word, rhyming verse, and prompts an action from the reader. In addition, look for wildlife on each page in an “I-Spy” scavenger hunt!
Spark an interest in reading, enjoy the outdoors and encourage healthy outdoor physical fitness. All are welcome to enjoy the trail and learn how we can help Woodsy Owl “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land.” The Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds are closed from dusk to dawn daily. The Shawnee National Forest asks the public to please recreate responsibly (www.recreateresponsibly.org). For more information, email Linda Hauser at: [email protected].
