(Springfield, IL)  —  An online auction is underway for unclaimed property in Illinois.  Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs says the auction will run through Friday.  Items being auctioned include an American Eagle gold coin proof set, a man’s 14-karat brushed white gold ring with blue Lindy star sapphire, and Michael Jordan comic books and basketball cards featuring Jordan and other NBA stars.

 

(Evansville, IN)  —  The Children’s Museum of Evansville says Nathan McCullough-Haddix has been named its interim director. That is due to museum director Stephanie Terry being elected mayor. She will take office in January. McCullough-Haddix has been the deputy director of cMoe for the past five years.

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  The Indiana Statehouse dome has been quietly closed to tours since January. The Indiana Department of Administration says the closure followed a structural engineering study that found safety concerns and has no plans to reopen the tours in the coming years. The IDOA had given small, scheduled tours until the study was complete. A spokeswoman for Governor Eric Holcomb says they do not have any plans to restart the tours.

(Springfield, IL)  —  The 2024 election cycle in Illinois is underway.  Candidates lined up yesterday outside the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield to file petitions for the March 19 primary ballot.  The filing period will last a week for those submitting nomination papers with county and state election authorities.

(Covington, KY)  —  The Covington Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating a new award given by the Commonwealth.  North Kentucky News reports the department was recognized last week as winner of the Outstanding Department Award-Class 1.  The award is given for outstanding leisure services, innovation and inclusion and overall achievements.  The organization is responsible for free events which include Christmas at City Hall, movie nights, concerts and sporting events.

Louisville, KY)  —  A second Big Boy has gone missing in the Commonwealth.  Georgetown police report a Big Boy statue was stolen outside a restaurant last week.  Police are now comparing notes with Louisville Metro Police who reported a Big Boy taken outside of the Frisch’s restaurant on Poplar Level Road on November 16th.   Big Boy is described at six-feet-tall with phenomenal hair and a little robust around the waist.
