Today is the first day of athletic events for the fall sports teams at Carmi-White County Junior and Senior High Schools. The junior high baseball and softball teams will start their season this afternoon on the road in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The baseball team is under the direction of new coaches, Devin Rankin and Justin Simmons are the assistants, Cole Carter is the head coach. The junior high softball team also has a new head coach, Kelsey Rankin, formerly known as Kelsey Rogers is in her first year as the head coach after helping Cindy Colman and Kaylea Chappelle at the junior and senior high levels for numerous years. First pitch for both teams is scheduled for 4:30. Both teams will then be at home tomorrow against Harrisburg. Softball will travel to Marion on Saturday for the Marion Invitational Tournament, and then it’s on the road again for both baseball and softball as they travel to Salem. The Carmi-White County High School golf team tees off their season today at the Mt. Carmel Invitational. Both the boys and girls teams will tee off around 1 PM. And there is one more team in town who will begin their campaign later on this week. The Carmi Jr. Pro football teams will kick things off this Saturday at home against Anna-Jonesboro. The 5th and 6th grade game will kick off at 5 pm, with the 7th and 8th grade game to follow around 7 PM.
