Issues with a machine at the White County courthouse delayed results Tuesday night. Voter turnout was dismal however throughout the region. In Hamilton County, only 18.6% of eligible voters turned out. Officials with County Clerk Heather Bowman’s office say 1,025 ballots were cast out of a possible 5,512. A similar story played out in Wayne County where only about 10% of eligible voters turned out. In White County, voter turnout was a hair better at 21.9%.
Lacey Bradshaw appears headed to the Carmi City Council. She leads incumbent Jim Totten 191 to 155 with some mail in ballots still to come in. Crossville Village Trustee seats will go to Nikki Jacobs, Wes Trout, and Bruce Morlock. They each picked up 47, 46, and 44 votes respectively. Cindy Westfall came up short picking up 27 votes. NCOE School Board results are also in. When combined with Gallatin and Hamilton County votes, Kyle Hoskins, Rhonda Sutton Forston, and Matt McArthy all won seats. Hoskins was the top vote getter with 408. McArthy picked up 370 votes and Forston came in third with 334 votes. Other candidates receiving votes were Taylor Marsh coming up just short with 324 votes, Paul Black with 314, and Maggie South with 296. The most highly contested race in White County was for Unit 5 School Board and there will be a new face on the board replacing an incumbent. Nathan Whetstone was the top vote getter with 917 votes. Brent Hammell was next with 770. Kenny Hargrave will join the incumbents after picking up 701 votes. Barb Mitchell will remain on the board with 675 tallies. Tom Scates came up just short with 641 votes. Other vote getters include Jason Edwards (307), Bill Chapman (291), Aaron O’Daniel (241), and Minerva Lovell (61).
Brent Edwards will join Whetstone, Hammell, Hargrave, and Mitchell on the board. He was running unopposed for an unexpired 2 year term to replace Sheila Westfall.
In Hamilton County, the race for city of McLeansboro Ward 1 is won by Mark Brown. He topped John Perryman by a 158 – 61 total. Jeffrey Reyling took the Ward 2 race beating Nickolas Hansen soundly 73 – 22. Top vote getters for the 3 open seats on the Hamilton County School Board include Tim Millenbine with 651 votes, Justin Woodrow with 629 and Doc Lynch with 590. Mitzi Neal came up short with 397 votes.
In Wayne County, the races we were watching were on the Fairfield City Council. Ward 2 was won by Bruce McKibben. He took 55% of the vote, or 47 tallies topping Cindy McKitrick with 17 and Judy Herrin with just 2. Sheryl Eckleberry topped Jerry Lisenbee for the Ward 3 spot picking up 71 votes to Lisenbee’s 31.
