The White County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints in reference to a scam involving the Illinois Department of Employment Security. People have received a debit card in the mail for the purpose of receiving unemployment benefits. If you have not applied for benefits this is a scam and not truly sent from the Department of Employment Security. The Sheriff’s Office recommends not activating the card and contacting the Department of Employment Security to advise them of situation. Please feel free to also contact the Sheriff’s Office.
