White County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Report of Vehicle in a Ditch Saturday

The White County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch Saturday evening around 5:23 PM. A maroon 2005 Dodge Durango was found partially in the ditch on the west side of the roadway on County Road 700 E approximately 200 feet north of County Road 1850 N. The vehicle was facing south and had obvious damage to the passenger side front wheel. The rear passenger window of the vehicle was broken and a number of cardboard boxes were found in the ditch beneath the broken window. A piece of mail was found in the front driver’s seat addressed to Jessica A. M. Flowers of Enfield. Deputy Spencer contacted Jessica who advised the vehicle was owned by her cousin, William P. Flowers of Enfield. She stated she would attempt to contact William and have him contact the Sheriff’s Department.

After speaking with Jessica again, Officers were able to reach William at Pizza Hut, where he was working. He advised he had been traveling south on the roadway about 4 days ago when he struck a large washout on the west side of the roadway causing damage to the passenger side front wheel and stopping in the ditch. William said he had been attempting to find someone to pull the vehicle out, but was unsuccessful so far. William said the window was not broken when he was last at the vehicle on Thursday or Friday and the cardboard boxes had been located in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. He stated someone must have broken the window and removed the boxes. William did not believe anything of value was in the vehicle, but he would contact the Sheriff’s Department if he discovered anything missing. He advised he was going to have a tow truck respond and remove the vehicle either Sunday or Monday.

Deputy Spencer advised William an incident report would be completed and placed on file at the White County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department and William agreed to contact one another if any further information became available.
