The White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of Criminal Trespass to Real Property Saturday morning at 2206 County Road 1200 E in Carmi. Jessica L. Fishback told officers someone had entered a garage on the property.
Upon arrival, Deputy Spencer met with Morgan H. Combs, who stated she left the residence at 5:00 p.m. Friday and did not return until just before 9:00 a.m. Saturday. When she arrived, she observed the south facing entry door of the detached garage was open. Combs told officers the door was closed and locked when she left the property Friday.
She entered the garage and discovered a number of items had been moved or tampered with and a burnt item was on the floor, she believed was a tablecloth. A Bic lighter was laying the floor and graffiti was on the wall. A black Sharpie permanent marker was located uncapped on a couch, a bicycle was laying outside the south entry door, and a small gasoline can was located in the driveway.
Combs said she did not believe anyone had keys to the door and probably entered through the north facing window, exiting the south entry door. There did not appear to be any damage to the interior or exterior of the garage and nothing appeared to have been taken.
An incident report was completed and placed on file at the White County Sheriff’s Department.
