White County Sheriff’s Department Responds to Disturbance in Norris City Monday Morning

The White County Sheriff’s Department received a call Monday morning around 11:45 am from Eric W. Williams in reference to a disturbance at the residence of Ronald G. Kerns of Norris City. Deputy Weiss spoke with Ronald Kerns who advised that his son Charles had arrived at the residence and could not get in. Charles, who had been allowed to stay at the residence since December 2019, became angry when he could not gain access and pushed over a lawn mower and some shelving, before prying open the back door. Once inside, Charles allegedly grabbed Ronald by the arms and front of the shirt and threatened to strike him, and threw items off the kitchen table.

Charles stated that he had been gone to a funeral for two days with a friend, and once he arrived back at the residence, he walked in the back door. His father, Ronald, was asleep at the time. He and his father exchanged words and got into a physical altercation with each other. Charles stated that he pushed some items over inside and outside the residence.

Ronald and Charles both signed a complaint and wrote a written voluntary statement. A report was filed and sent to the White County State’s Attorney’s office for charges.

Charles was taken to a relative’s house to keep both parties separated.
