White County Sheriff’s Department Receives Several Theft Reports Over the Weekend

The White County Sheriff’s Department received a report Saturday morning from Jason Draper that sometime Friday night someone took an aluminum survey tripod valued at $200 from one of his worksites. The item had been located at 2400 N on the Freda Finch Farm.

Miranda Travelstead of 905 N. 9th Street in Carmi reported criminal trespass to her residence as well as theft over $500 to the White County Sheriff’s Department Saturday. Travelstead said she was inside her residence on Friday, along with Sasha Richards and Jessica Bratcher both of Enfield, when they heard someone outside her residence. The individual forced his way in the front door by kicking it open. The individual was in the residence for a few moments before they removed him from inside. On Saturday, Travelstead was at home by herself, when her dogs got out and she went looking for them. When she returned home, the individual was walking out of her residence. She told him to stay away for her residence. Upon investigating, she noticed a Dewalt Air Compressor, Poulan Chain Saw, and miscellaneous tools were missing from her shed.

Benny R. Steele of 314 IL Highway 1 in Norris City, called the White County Sheriff’s Department Saturday night to report a burglary at his residence. Steele told officers sometime on Saturday, someone entered his home and stole a pistol gun safe that had two pistols inside. The two pistols were described as a Makarov 9mm Caliber semi automatic pistol with a black finish and a Heritage Arms 22 Magnum Caliber revolver with a black finish. The safe was described as a black safe about a 1 foot cube. Steele said the safe was there when he left Saturday morning and he returned to find it missing. The front door was not locked and there was no forced entry. Nothing else seemed to be tampered with and nothing else appeared to be missing.
