Effective immediately and until further notice the White County Senior Citizens Center will not be serving meals in the Center. Meals will be available by carry-out and home delivery only. This has been mandated by the State of Illinois due to the coronavirus.
The Illinois Department on Aging requested to the Illinois Area Agencies on Aging and was implemented through Southeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging, that the Community Cafe’s (Senior Centers) in Southeastern Illinois, now suspend activities as well as the on site congregate meals in PSA 10 (Edwards, Wayne, Wabash, Jasper, Crawford, Richland, White, Hamilton & Lawrenceville) effective immediately. This is to take precautions against the virus called COVID-19. Prevention, (to what the World Health Organization now calls a “Global Pandemic,”) is necessary to contain outbreaks prior to occurrence. Services for information and assistance, benefits access applications, medicare questions, legal assistance, etc., can still be sought through appointment (attendance number limited) only. Phone calls are preferred. It is best to call the center of the Area Agency in advance to practice best measures and ensure prevention. Carry out and home delivered meals will be made available, please prepare to have meals at your residence in case of emergency and a possible quarantine. Rides Mass Transit will still be offering rides to appointments and necessary trips. If a weekend day trip is scheduled at your center, please contact your local RIDES office to ensure the trip is still on the itinerary. As soon as the Area Agency is directed that the restriction has been lifted, the media will be updated. Preparedness is the key to staying healthy and aging in place!
