White County Relay for Life Chairwoman Diagnosed with Cancer

A Carmi woman who has made it her mission to head up efforts for the White County Relay for Life is now battling cancer herself.  Angie Leuke, chairwoman for the local effort says she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She held off on letting friends know as her family was busy with prom and her oldest daughter’s graduation.  The community, as it often does, has been quick to rally around Leuke with numerous events and fundraisers immediately coming together.  Marcie Hoskins and her daughter Emma a classmate of Leuke’s daughter Hannah has organized a 5K Fun Run, Walk, or Stroll for later this month.  Find the registration form below.  Entry fee is $25 and in person registration begins at 5:30pm on June 25th at the Carmi Elks Lodge on Cherry Street.  The route will follow the path of other 5K’s held in the past.  Additionally, folks are selling T-shirts, decals for vehicles, and there are discussions to organize a Vendor/Bake Sale, Gospel Sing and more.  You can find supplementary information and keep up with Leuke’s journey through a facebook page, “Angie’s Army” that’s been set up for Angie to chronicle what she calls her “adventure with breast cancer.”  Find it by clicking here.
