One of the most important and core values of 4-H is community service and leadership. 4-H members work tirelessly with both their club and county to support their community in many shapes and forms. Kids Helping Kids is an organization consisting of 4-H members from White County who help children in need within White County. Kids Helping Kids funds come entirely from donations, more specifically the Kids Helping Kids Walk that is held annually. The Amazing KHK Race occurred on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Burrell’s Woods in Carmi. White County 4-H kids raised over $4,400.00, which is amazing! 4-H members enjoyed getting clues and racing to the answers of the clues. At each station the 4-H’ers had challenges to complete to get their next clue to move on.
Already this year Kids Helping Kids has donated the first payment of an instrument to a student at Washington Attendance Center who wanted to be in the band. Kids Helping Kids has also donated $467.00 in Back to School clothes for children in our community. It is not too late to ever donate to Kids Helping Kids, and if you would like to donate, please contact Amber Ochs, the local Extension office at 618-382-2662,or download an application at: https://web.extension.illinois.edu/ghhpsw/white4h/2711.html. White County 4-H’ers are doing great things in our county. The Kids Helping Kids Walk is a prime example of how 4-H combines service, learning, and fun!
