Warrants, Stolen iPhone, Fraud, Felony Arrest Made, Criminal Trespassing Report Filed with Sheriff’s Dept

An Omaha man is free after turning himself in on a Failure to Appear warrant Thursday morning in White County.  31 year old Braxton Sauls reported to the Sheriff’s Department just after 8am to turn himself in for FTA on an Unlawful Violation of an Order of Protection alleging he came within 500 feet of Michelle Battesse.  Sauls was subsequently processed and bonded out to $595 within an hour.

An Albion man says someone stole his iPhone while he was indisposed at the Skeeter Mountain Rest Area along I-64 near Grayville last week.  It was Wednesday between 3 and 3:30pm when Walter Shoe says the call of nature beckoned.  The Wayne County man says he didn’t lock his vehicle and he’d parked up front closest to the door.  Law enforcement advised they would check with the rest area manager to see if security camera footage may be used to assist with finding the perp.  An investigation is ongoing.

An elaborate fraud scheme victimized a Norris City man last week.  Authorities received the report from 58 year old John Pearce of rural Norris City who admitted he thought he’d been taken advantage of.  The man says on Friday, September 2nd when getting on his computer, a message popped up that showed it was from Microsoft saying to call them.  Pearce did and the woman on the other end of the phone alleged Pearce’s computer had been compromised and she was able to see where all of his money had been withdrawn from his banking account.  Pearce says the woman then alleged they needed to do a transaction to put money back in the bank.  Following those events, the same woman called him back the next day advising they needed to do the same thing for another bank account.  The report doesn’t indicate exactly how much Mr. Pearce was taken for.

42 year old John Heil of Norris City is facing 5 felony counts following his arrest on Sunday.  While the report received from White County Sheriff’s authorities is simply an arrest-booking report, online court records show Heil was arrested and has been charged with Aggravated Battery including the use of a deadly weapon, Intimidation, Domestic Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, and Obstruction of Justice in attempting to destroy evidence.  An order of protection was granted against Heil in June of this year.  He was also convicted of Illegal Transportation of Alcohol last month.  Heil will be due back in court on October 5th.

A White County Deputy was dispatched to Maunie on Friday afternoon.  His report indicates he was met at 278 North Street by homeowner Connie Miller.  She told the officer she had parked her vehicle there sometime after 7pm the previous night (September 8th) and then Friday morning found her vehicle had been tampered with.  Miller says the lug nuts had been removed from the front driver side tire and that someone had placed a brick under the front driver side of the vehicle.  A signed complaint for Criminal Trespassing was signed by Miller.
