Voting is underway here in Illinois and area county clerks are reporting disappointing returns so far. White County Clerk Kayci Heil says turnout is low. Gallatin County Clerk Deanna Bryant echoed that disappointment. Omaha Township only had 17 voters earlier this morning. Equality only had 28 votes cast. Bryant says as of 10:30am, only 200 voters out of 3,400 registered have cast ballots. Indian Creek precinct 6 only had 29 votes tabulated around 9am and Indian Creek 8 only had 14 voters as of the same time.
There aren’t many locally contested races in the primary. Enfield 4 here in White County is choosing between Valinda Rowe, a Darren Bailey supporter and David South, the current White County GOP Chairman, a Mike Bost supporter. There are Congressional, Legislative, and Representative races however with incumbents Bost, Terri Bryant, and Dave Severin facing off against Bailey, Wesley Kash, and Angela Evans. In Gallatin County, we’re watching the Coroner’s race on the Republican ballot where Cole Baker is facing off with Erin Krikie.
