According to Carmi Police, as normal with Facebook and social media, a report Thursday afternoon about a man trying to kidnap students at the Carmi-White County High School under the guise of Army recruitment contained very little truth and was mostly blown out of proportion. A gentleman from Carmi that is retired military was eating lunch on the gravel lot at DQ yesterday and was talking to some of the students on the lot about the military. There was absolutely no attempted kidnapping and Mr. King was notified immediately and spoke with the gentleman. The situation was resolved before the School Resource Officer was even notified. There was no talk about any guns or such as has been reported on Social Media.
WROY/WRUL news also received a phone call this morning in regard to some trucks circling the Carmi-White County High School flying Confederate Flags. We spoke with Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter who informed us the 8 to 10 trucks that were there were flying American Flags, Confederate Flags, and Trump Flags. They were in a line and turned from Main onto College Blvd. where they all parked. No criminal activity was reported.
