Three Lady Warrior Golfers Named to All-Region Team

INA, Ill. (June 2, 2020) — After a successful year on the links, three golfers from Rend Lake College were selected for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 24 All-Region Team.
Alex Sadler, Paige Hamel and Ryleigh Vaughn were recently named to the Region 24 Team, which features golfers from schools throughout Southern and Central Illinois.
“These ladies are being recognized for being among the very best in their Region,” said RLC Women’s Head Golf Coach James Gray. “It is quite the honor to be selected to this team as it is voted on by all the coaches.”
The RLC Women’s Golf Team was able to compete in several tournaments in the fall before the season was cut short due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this spring. However, the team was still able to put together a list of accomplishments in the truncated season.
Sadler led the way for the Lady Warriors with an average of 80. She shot the second-lowest round of the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational with a 73 and would go on to finish 11th in the tournament. Later, at the William Baptist University Fall Invitational in Arkansas, Sadler made the fourth hole-in-one in Lady Warrior history and would go on to place second overall. Sadler plans on returning next year for another season at RLC.
Hamel, the team captain, averaged an 85 for the Lady Warriors and played strong, consistent golf throughout the season. She shot a low round of 79 during the first tournament of the year at Indiana Wesleyan. Hamel was also second on the team in birdies in 2019. She will continue her golfing career next season at McKendree University.
Vaughn made a big leap from Year 1 to Year 2 and was the most improved golfer on the team, Gray said. She kicked off the season with two of her lowest rounds of her career (80 and 89) during the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational and would go on to place in the top-40 in the event. Vaughn will continue her golf career at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale next year.
