On Wednesday, an officer with the Mount Vernon Police Department observed a Dodge Charger that did not have proper lighting on the back of the vehicle. When the officer conducted a traffic stop, he could smell the strong odor of burnt marijuana. The driver, 21-year-old Sarah Smith from Norris City, admitted to smoking in the vehicle in the past, but a search of the vehicle revealed a marijuana smoking pipe, marijuana wax, a marijuana roach, drug paraphernalia, and a digital scale with a white substance on it. The white substance was field tested and it came back positive for methamphetamine.
This is the second time in three weeks that Smith has been arrested in Posey County on drug charges. Smith was arrested and taken to the Posey County Jail. Her charges include: Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
