It could still be months before the remains found in October are identified. White County Coroner Chris Marsh says that Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter recently received an update from the State Police Crime Lab with a tentative date in June. However, because the case isn’t tagged as an open criminal case that could go to trial, anything that may come in for DNA with charges against someone and possible court hearings than hinge on DNA analysis, the findings will get bumped and that one would move up on the docket.
It was a Wednesday night, October 4th of last year when a body was recovered inside a shed near an apartment complex on Stewart Street in Carmi. At that time, Marsh said the body had been there some time and ID’ing the body was impossible due to the state it was in. At that point, the remains were sent to Champaign for forensics.

January 31, 2024 at 12:31 pm6-9-12 months to be able to identfy the remains means that some family has to continue their suffering as they look for closure. That should be unacceptable and someone should contest that update. These are basic services from the state.

Btw, we have LUEKIMA, shouldn’t be too hard for satellites to track.
