HARRISBURG, Ill. (October 28, 2020) – Southeastern Illinois College is offering students a unique opportunity to earn 3 credits in just 4 weeks through a new online Winter Session. Introductory Sociology (SOC 121), offered December 28 – January 22, will feature opportunities for class discussions and a research assignment where students are able to apply their knowledge in the field, with proper social distancing.
“Have you ever wondered why people do the things they do? Why do we engage in the relationships we engage in? Why do some of us commit crimes and others do not?” says instructor Matt Lees about the class. “Why do some find meaning, purpose, and happiness and others find themselves in depression and despair? If you find people interesting this is the class for you.”
The course will include analysis of social conflict, the structure and function of institutions, the dynamics of individual and group interactions, social stratification, and interactions among diverse groups of people. The 4-week course has been highlighted as a great opportunity for students to pick up three credits between semesters, especially before beginning a heavier course load in the Spring.
Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg with an extension center in Carmi was founded in 1960 and offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs.
