A traffic stop for a license plate that was not readable turned into an arrest for a Wayne County man. On Sunday, December 26th, an Officer with the White County Sheriff’s Department pulled over a truck after he couldn’t read the license plate. The driver, 53 year old Roger D Smith of 24 County Road in Fairfield told the officer that he was in the process of buying the truck from a friend. The officer then went back to his vehicle and ran Smith’s information which showed that he had an outstanding warrant in Clay County. A search was done on the vehicle then towed from the scene by Cherry Street Automotive. Smith’s was then transported to the White County Jail.
Smith’s first appearance will be on February 1st at 9:00 AM.
