25-year-old Shane Simmons is behind bars again after a welfare check allegedly turned violent. Carmi EMS workers Adam Allen and Alan Wurst were called to see about Simmons on East Cherry just before 5pm Thursday. Simmons was subsequently arrested after authorities say he threatened bodily harm on the two men. He’s facing charges of Aggravated Battery and Assault along with Resisting a Peace Officer. He’s currently behind bars at the White County Jail. The battery and assault charges are being filed as felonies. Simmons was in trouble earlier this year pleading guilty to Disorderly Conduct after an incident in August. He had been placed on 2 years of probation, ordered to pay a fine and sent for medical/mental treatment.

December 22, 2023 at 1:48 pmI’m not a big supporter of enabling anyone but this young man needs help. I see him around town often and try to get him food, water etc, but he needs more help than that. Are there any resources locally that could a**ist him? It’s actually a sad deal. Bless his heart.

December 23, 2023 at 4:30 amYou’re a very kind person Outlaw. The mental health system is broken. The revolving door of rehab, usually 30 days cannot cure mental health and drug addiction. In many other countries it’s 9 months on average to retrain the brain. I am disheartened by what I see vs what could be.

I saw this Young MAN sitting in the Middle of town, and I just Wanted to go to HIM, and just Sit Down and Talk to him, but I didn’t know how he would Respond to me. Sometimes a Person just Needs that Right One, to talk and Understand him. It’s Obvious he Needs Alot of Mental Help, NOT JAIL???????????????????????? From what I have Witnessed he’s a TICKING TIME BOMB MENTALLY???????????????????????? I do RECOVERY AND FROM THAT I HAVE LEARNED BEYOND MEASURES THAT, EVERYONE HAS A PURPOSE IN LIFE, AND IS NEEDED EVEN THOUGH HE DONT FEEL THAT WAY. It’s Free to BE KIND, and as you See we Never know what Others are going through.I. Life, and HOLIDAYS WILL TRIGGER SOMEONE TO DO A PERMANENT SOLUTION, FOR A TEMPORARY PROBLEM????????????????????????????????????????????????
