Like the rest of campus during the first week of December, members of the SIC Falcons Faction of Gamers (FOG) esports team were busy studying for finals and preparing for the end of the semester. Unlike the rest of campus, they were also ramping up their practice schedule because the team made it to the postseason in both the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) competitions in which they were participants.
The extra work paid off as the team finished 2nd in the NACE Call of Duty MWII Platinum 1 Varsity Plus Division tournament and 3rd (out of 22 teams) in the ECAC Call of Duty MWII Contenders tournament. In each tournament, the FOG faced opponents from private and public 2-year colleges and 4-year universities from across the U.S., competing online from the state-of-the-art esports arena on SIC’s main campus.
Head coach Jason Fitzgerald said, “I am very proud of the accomplishments the team has achieved during the Fall semester, and I am looking forward to a run for the championships during the Spring 2024 competition season in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.”
The team is always on the lookout for new members and is currently recruiting for the 2024-2025 academic year. The titles in which the team competes vary according to the makeup of the team, but potential titles include Call of Duty, Rocket League, Overwatch, Fortnite, and more.
Team members must be enrolled as full-time students in a degree or certificate program at SIC, maintain a 2.5 GPA in their SIC coursework, be a team player, and have a competitive spirit. Scholarships are available and awarded each semester. Email [email protected] for more information about the team or to ask any questions.
