SIC Students Find Opportunity in Scholarship

 HARRISBURG, Ill. (June 10, 2020) – Through contributions of patrons of Southeastern Illinois College District, the SIC Foundation awards local scholarships to students exhibiting financial need, scholastic or service achievement. Students may apply for scholarships in the Foundation Office or the Financial Aid Office.

Recipients are selected by the SIC Scholarship Committee or the individual scholarship donors. The Foundation administers scholarships and grants which are awarded to students by businesses, corporations, civic organizations, governmental entities, individuals, and family trusts committed to strengthening academic excellence and student success.

The SIC Foundation awarded scholarships to 32 current SIC student recipients across the SIC region for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Scholarship recipients from the Harrisburg area include: Gabrielle Behnke and Camden Schiff, both awarded the College Club of Saline County Scholarship; Angela Colby, who was awarded the C.R. Gardner Memorial Scholarship; Marcella Lane, recipient of the Dr. Warren Tuttle Memorial Scholarship; and Jack Gulley, recipient of the Eugene & Callie Walden Morris Scholarship as well as the Warren & Noveta King-Priest Scholarship and the Michael Hillegas Chapter D.A.R. Scholarship.

Additional Harrisburg students receiving scholarship from the SIC Foundation are: John Fugate, recipient of the Harry W. Abell Scholarship; Paige Cook, recipient of the John and Audrey Coyle Scholarship; Brandon Bui, recipient of the Suzanne Alexander Memorial Scholarship; and Christian Oliver, recipient of the Law Enforcement’s Future Scholarship. Logan Barnett of Harrisburg received the Julie Fowler Orange Memorial Scholarship. Jacob Penrod and Bridget Payne, both of Harrisburg, received a Harrisburg Kiwanis Scholarship. Harrisburg’s Maddison Murphy was awarded the June Rice Malan Memorial Math Award, sharing that honor with Desiraii Fowler of Rosiclare.

Eldorado scholarship recipients include: Samantha Boulds, recipient of the Carla’s Wings of a Butterfly Scholarship; Hollie Juarez, recipient Eldorado Women’s Club Scholarship; Taylor Fredrickson, recipient of the John Bennewitz Memorial Art Scholarship; and Braden Attebury, recipient of the Eva Gersbacher Memorial Biology Award.

Other Saline County recipients are: William Lewis of Carrier Mills, recipient of the George T. Dennis Memorial Scholarship; Jordan Robertson of Carrier Mills, recipient of the Warren & Noveta King-Priest Scholarship; Bethany Toler of Galatia, recipient of the Harrisburg Kiwanis Scholarship; and receiving the Sam Porter Chemistry Award are both Cameron Triplett of Galatia and Jacob Rice of Stonefort. Rice is also recipient of the Catherine Oldham Memorial Scholarship.

Hailing from Enfield, Rebecca Westbrook was awarded the Faye Mitchell Memorial Scholarship. From Norris City, Madison Money was the recipient of the Jaylynn Ferrell Memorial Scholarship. Janes Smith of Carmi is the 2020 recipient of the Gladys Carroll Scholarship.

Gallatin County scholarship recipients include: Rachel Carter of Shawneetown, recipient of the Frank Schneider Memorial Scholarship; Payton Lester of Ridgway, recipient of the Ruth Baird Creative Writing Scholarship and Wilma Hunter Memorial Scholarship; and Lucas Reeder of Ridgway, received the Gladys Carroll Scholarship. Shelby Hall is the 2020 recipient of the Harold Bauman Memorial Scholarship, the Cooper Family Scholarship and the Matthew J. Fry Memorial Scholarship.

Natalie Bonnell of Golconda was awarded the Companion Pet Rescue Scholarship. Tucker Murphy, also of Golconda, was awarded the Dennis/Allen Speech Scholarship.

McKenzie Newsome of Thompsonville received the Austin & Doris Welch Art Scholarship.
