SIC Mini-Semester Helps Students Knock Out a Few Classes in Half the Time

HARRISBURG, Ill.  (Jan. 20, 2021) – Spring semester is in full swing at Southeastern Illinois College, but that does not mean it’s too late to register for some classes. SIC is offering a mini-semester this year with classes beginning March 15.

The mini-semester courses will be all online, which means students can work on classes at their convenience. The courses are eight weeks long, rather than the traditional 16-weeks, and will finish up at the same time as the regular spring semester.

“The pandemic has changed so many plans, but mini-semester classes provide opportunity for students not able to start school in January,” says Dr. Tyler Billman, Executive Dean of Academic Services. “All of the courses will count the same as regular semester classes and are transferable to other institutions. For students that have returned home unexpectedly from a university or for those that simply got a late start, these classes are a chance to get back on track.”

Five classes will be offered mini-semester style. They include Principles of Speaking (COM 121), Rhetoric and Composition II (ENG 122), Science of Personal Health (HYG 121), Intro to Psychology (PSYC 121), and Intro to Sociology (SOC 121).

Registration for the mini-semester is going on now. Students already enrolled at SIC may register for these classes on MySIC. New students who are interested may contact an advisor at [email protected] or (618) 252-5400 ext. 4130.
