The Southeastern Illinois College Workforce and Community Education division sponsored a Basic Tactical Medical Instructor Training Program on campus last week.
Scott Haymaker, instructor with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), located in Charleston, South Carolina, presented the program to 16 police departments from agencies in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, and Texas.
“This program gives agencies the knowledge, skills, and the ability to take back their training to their community,” Haymaker said. “This training is to save the lives of their brothers and sisters in blue and members of the community. The instructors here today will take what they have learned back to their departments.”
Each officer participating in the training receives the Basic Tactical Medical Class Teaching Proper Tourniquet, Chest Seals, and Hemostatic Agents certificate. Participants also receive two tourniquets and an individual first-aid kit.
Jerod Campbell, Chief Deputy with the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, organized the training.
“This training is here to give Southern Illinois law enforcement agencies instructors in the tactical medical field and to be able to teach other officers in our area,” said Campbell.
This training is offered at no cost to all law enforcement agencies.
