Music will soon fill the lobby of the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center at Southeastern Illinois College. The All Things Bright and Beautiful concert will be performed by SIC’s Concert Choir on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
This concert will consist of a wide variety of pieces ranging from J.S. Bach’s “My Heart Ever Faithful” to the concert’s namesake, John Rutter’s “All Things Bright and Beautiful”. Other works vary between melodies set to poetic masterworks, upbeat gospel arrangements, fun songs and serious ones. There will be a balance of sacred and secular texts as well.
“There is something for everybody on this concert,” said Cory Garmane, SIC music instructor and choir director. “The choir members are particularly excited to perform Marta Keen’s “Homeward Bound”, a beautifully arranged melody reminiscent of a folksong reminding us that when all else fails or things aren’t going well, there is a safe place for each of us.”
Southeastern’s Concert Choir currently has 11 members and is seeking more SIC students. The choir rehearses on Thursday’s from 3-4:50 p.m.
“This group of students is incredible,” said Garmane. “We may be small in number, but they are working hard and producing great things. They’re learning to blend their individual voices together and listen to what’s going on around them. They are always attentive, happy, and energized. I always say a willing heart and an open mind can produce great things, and these students prove my point.”
