Shiever advances to Sectional

The Carmi-White County Girls Golf team had their season come to an end on Thursday at the Pinckneyville regional, except for sophomore Ava Shiever. Shiever punched her ticket to the sectional with a 98 which included defeating two other girls in a thrilling playoff for the last spot. Shiever hit a monster drive on the playoff hole, a good 75 yards past the two opposing players. She then chipped up beside the green on her second stroke, and on the green with her third. That was enough to win the hole outright, and put Shiever in the final spot to head to Sectionals.

As a team, Carmi finished 8th overall out of 12 teams. Mount Carmel won the regional in a landslide with a 281 team score, Salem finished 2nd with a 358 and Hamilton County finished 3rd with a 369. Those three teams will move on to the sectional. For the other Lady Bulldogs in action, Kinley Carter and Maeve Atteberry both shot 104s. Saylor Mason shot a 107 in her final high school golf match. Courtney Snow shot a 108 and Sadie Balding shot a 114.

“The girls played really well and made great improvements in the last two weeks of the season,” said CWC Golf Coach, Trey Mason. “Our lone senior, Saylor Mason, will be missed.”

Shiever will head to Salem on Monday to represent the Lady Bulldogs in Sectionals with hopes to potentially make a trip to Bloomington for the IHSA State Golf Match.
