The Shawneetown Port is getting a massive cash boost through the US government. Announced Friday, The Shawneetown Regional Port Revitalization Project is the recipient of a $10.12 million dollar grant. The project includes the design and construction of a roughly 1.25 mile access road and the development of a Master Plan to comprehensively prepare for future port expansion and operations. To date, investment in the project now stands at just under $27 million. That includes $11.2 million from IDOT for the fertilizer project, $1 million through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, $190,000 from the Delta Regional Authority, $400,000 from the IDOT Freight Forward Program for engineering and design of the road, the new grant announced today, and a $4 million private investment from SGI River Terminal.
