A Saturday morning accident in Jefferson County claimed the life of one man and sent a woman to a St. Louis hospital with injuries.
22 year old Lucas Johnson of McLeansboro was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident that occurred in the early morning hours just north of Opdyke. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said that the pickup Johnson was driving left the road and struck a tree. The passenger, 21 year old Kalie Montgomery of Carterville had to be extracted from the vehicle and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in St. Louis.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
