Sasquatch….Bigfoot…whatever you prefer to call the “critter” that’s considered the king of “hide and seek,” will be the featured them of the first ever Sasquatch Festival set for Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Harrisburg.
The concept grew out of a fall 2020 meeting of Harrisburg leaders and the community development committee as an effort to further promote Harrisburg and the region, as Harrisburg already claims to the title; Gateway to the Shawnee Forest.
In exploring options the committee members and leaders came upon the familiar hashtage; ShawneeSasquatch. After all a statue of “Sassie” sits at the turn off Rim Rock Road to the road that leads to the Garden of the Gods. The statue has become a landmark and favorite spot for outdoor enthusiasts, photographers and locals.
With that in mind, the Sasquatch Festival was born.
The day opens with a Sasquatch 5K fun run beginning at 10 Saturday morning, Oct. 7
There will be food and concession trucks on site plus free carnival rides. There will be a car show from noon until 4 on Locust Street. The event includes live music featuring the Jake Meyers Band at noon, followed by the 90s Kids at 4 and Murphy 500 will wrap up the music on the Popular Street Stage at 8.
