The White County Sheriff’s office says White County emergency dispatch received a call Friday advising that a subject matching the description of Sanjay Lewis, the man wanted for questioning in a double stabbing that occurred overnight Monday into Tuesday in Grayville, was spotted. From there, the caller advised the man was walking across the highway to the Super 8 Motel. A Grayville officer then arrived on scene and the subject fled on foot into the woods.
The release indicates units from the White County Sheriff’s office, Edwards County Sheriff’s deputies, and Carmi PD arrived on scene as well as a Carmi PD K-9. One of the Carmi PD officers was sent to secure a perimeter near I-64 and that’s where the officer observed Lewis walking toward the interstate. Lewis was taken into custody without incident and subsequently taken to the White County Jail. Lewis has been charged with Aggravated Battery and his bond is set at $10,000 cash.
