The Carmi Township had a relatively quick meeting with only two items on the agenda.
Amy Wilson took the lead in Supervisor Pam Deig’s absence, bringing the board members a significant update on Allied GA Catastrophic Insurance:
“Our catastrophic insurance, as Pam wanted me to mention, has increased from 2,690 dollars last year to 4,030 this year.”
This substantial 25-40% increase, as explained by Clerk Ruth McAllister, will have a notable impact.
Assessor Amy Edwards shared that she is still awaiting aerials, but she brought nine properties that will be assessed. Edwards further explains that she now has access to the DevNet app, which the County Board approved. This app has significantly improved her workflow, allowing her to work more efficiently and independently.
“I paid for that myself, and what that does for me is I can, since I don’t have a lot of communication with the Supervisor, I can get into the program now and see if things have been added or haven’t been added.”
Township board trustees asked why she had to pay out of pocket for the software, with Edwards stating she was not sure,
“I had to pay for it myself, 1,500 dollars. I don’t know, but the County Board made a vote for me to have that, and that has been very helpful.”
The software is used for all of the Townships in White County, giving members of the Carmi Township the idea to ask the other Townships in the County to help pay her back. With that idea, it was approved as an added item for next month’s meeting.
In the Road Comissioner’s Report, Chris McEwing discussed hiring Steve Edwards and the future purchase of greater tires and blades, which would cost around $4,000.
Wilson stated that the Salary Committee will be tabled until next month due to Pam’s absence.
In the Supervisor’s Report, the General and Emergency Assistance had 15 sign-ins from Carmi, with $806.56 for utilities and $300 for shelter. Total expenses for June consisted of $41,807.65.
Carmi Township will have its next meeting on August 13th at 6 PM.
