Probable Cause Complaints Signed Following Domestic Dispute

The White County Sheriff’s Department reports another domestic dispute was investigated over the weekend.

Saturday evening, Sheriff’s Deputy Trey Simmons, assisted by Carmi Police, was dispatched to Fairview Drive in Carmi.  Upon arrival, 53 year old Samantha Scheer told the Deputy she asked Janelle Payne, 31, who she let stay at her home for a few days, to help her with the trash in the yard. Scheer claims Payne began screaming at her that she was tired and didn’t want to help with the chore. Scheer said Payne got into her face, so she pushed her away.  Payne then locked herself in her room and called 911.  Scheer told the deputy she just wants her out of her residence and to go somewhere else.  Scheer agreed to fill out a voluntary statement to that effect.

The Deputy then talked with Payne who said she was in her room when Samantha Scheer arrived home.  When asked to help pick up the trash, she said was tired and didn’t want to help.  She then said Scheer started screaming at her, so she screamed back.  Payne said Scheer pushed her in the face above her right eye, telling her to shut up or she would hit her.  That’s when Payne ran into her room and called 911.  Deputy Simmons asked her if she would like to sign a Probable Cause complaint, which she agreed to and did.  The deputy said he would write a report and send it to the State’s Attorney.

Payne said she had a friend coming to get her, then went into the residence and left with her items.  Scheer said she wanted Payne trespassed from her property, which the Deputy agreed.  After relaying the information to Payne, she said she understood and left the scene.  Simmons then told Scheer that he would write a report and send it to the State’s Attorney.

No arrests were made.
