Prater Gets Two Decades Behind Bars in Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault Plea Deal Wednesday

A Carmi man arrested nearly 10 months ago on five counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault is heading to prison.  It was May 25th of 2023 when Carmi Police pulled Jordan Prater over and ended up arresting him on a warrant issued just a day prior.  White County States Attorney Chris Neal says Prater was sentenced in White County court Wednesday to 21 years as part of a negotiated plea deal.  Sentencing details include 7 years each on 3 of the charges while 4 were dismissed as per the agreement.  The sentences will be served consecutively with the plea deal reached with assistance of Special Prosecutor Crystal Uhe of the Illinois State Appellate Prosecutors Office.  Judge Webb presided over the case.

Original story:  May 25, 2023

A Carmi man is behind bars on $25,000 bail following his arrest late Wednesday night.  Carmi Police initiated a traffic stop just after 10pm at Main and Commerce and subsequently arrested 30 year old Jordan Prater of Schumaker Street on a White County warrant.  The affidavit filed shows the warrant was issued Tuesday.  Prater is facing 5 counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault.  The allegations suggest Prater intentionally committed acts of sexual penetration on juvenile family members under the age of 13.  The alleged offenses occurred beginning in November of 2011 and happened as recently as December of 2020.  Online court records don’t yet indicate when Prater is due in White County court.
