Pistol Shoot Raises Funds for Young Leader Scholarship

The Young Leader Committee of the White County Farm Bureau held its 14th Annual Young Leader Pistol Shoot at the Carmi Rifle Club on Saturday, July 13. Nineteen shooters participated in this year’s event, which raised funds to support the Young Leader Collegiate Scholarship.

This year’s event was a “Speed Steel” challenge, where shooters had to work their way through six different stages, with five steel targets each. Individuals shot five relays at each stage for a total of 150 targets shot. Time was kept for each relay with the slowest relay time at each stage being dropped. The remaining times were added together. The lowest overall time won the competition.

In this year’s competition, Dawson Weber of Carmi, IL led the Adult Division with a total time of 82.87 seconds. Second place went to Darren Kenshalow of Fairfield, IL with a time of 85.54 seconds. Dane Horton of Fairfield, IL finished third with a total time of 85.77 seconds. There were no entries in the Youth Division.

Weber and Kenshalo were each awarded a brick of .22 ammunition and an Illinois Farm Bureau hat for finishing first and second, sponsored by Kyle Hosick, Country Financial Representative in Carmi & Enfield.

All of the shooters were given one ticket to the grand prize drawing of a Ruger Mark III target pistol. The top three shooters were given extra chances. Darren Kenshalow was the winner of the pistol. The pistol and carrying bag were sponsored by Red’s Recoil Enterprises, LLC in Norris City, IL.
