Erin Pennington, a teacher in the Unit 5 School District is presumably headed back to work Wednesday. Whether that was possible remained up in the air until Tuesday night when board members gathered to consider her potential punishment during a disciplinary hearing. Following a 56 minute closed session, board members unanimously voted to suspend Pennington for the previous 4 days of school without pay (April 20, 21, 24, and 25). The cause wasn’t discussed in open session. Sources have indicated the incident in question surrounded a confrontation with a specific student however. The board also issued Pennington with a remediable warning before adjourning exactly an hour after the meeting was called to order.
