The Norris City Village Board met in its regular monthly session for about an hour Monday night. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Ashley Garlick, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and two other members spoke to the board concerning peddler permits for the Farmers Market. She said they host events in the village every Thursday from 10 AM to 5 PM and can’t afford to pay fees being charged to vendors and would have to shut them down. This brings in businesses and is a benefit to the community, which Mayor Skip Land agreed. Village attorney Nathan Roland said they may need to update the ordinance to accommodate the Chamber. The Mayor said he and the board will work with them to hammer out an agreement both sides would be happy with.
The village only received one sealed bid on the property at 506 North Division Street. It was accepted from Alvin Kaufman for $1,399.99.
As far as Phase IV of the water project goes, there will be a three or four month delay on finishing the work due to getting the money together and the paperwork in order.
The board approved the FY 2025 budget and will file it with the county clerk, with a 30 day notice and public viewing available at the village office. It will then be passed at next month’s meeting.
The board decided to table the contract proposal from Bulldog Systems to look into it further.
The village is continuing negotiations with Linda Hulett Bond on the contract with Hulett Field.
They are still working on the CDL contracts.
The NPDES permit for work on the sanitation plant was renewed for the years of 2025 to 2029. The work is being done by Brown & Roberts engineering.
They received a very good report on the inspection of the reservoir levee, as everything looked to be in good shape.
The village will finalize the deal on the old Wakeford property with Amanda Cannon by July 28th.
The Norris City Beautification Group is looking for donations. The board approved a $500 donation to them.
They are deciding whether to put out an ad for this year’s White County Fair.
The grinding project for East Main Street is going forward.
The village was not selected for a Safe Routes to School grant.
In Park business, the cost of Concrete barriers for the park will be $450. Volunteers are needed for work at the park. Red clay dirt has been ordered for Hulett Field and the NCOE School Board will chip in on the cost. And recently there was vandalism at the playground of one of the large umbrellas totalling $2,600. Police are now investigating.
In the Police report for last month, there were nine reports written, three accident reports, 12 traffic stops and warnings and one citation issued.
The board went to Executive Session at 7:57 PM to discuss personnel.
The next meeting of the Norris City Village Board will be on August 12th at 7 PM.
