Officers Outsmart Vehicle Thief

The saying “possession is 9/10ths of the law” is not applicable to stolen vehicles.  A rural Carmi woman learned that the hard way Tuesday morning.  An initial report was filed with White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss by Mr. Robin Holloway of New Haven. On March 11th, Holloway told deputies that he had lent his Ford truck to 35 year old Jayla Goff on February 13th and says he expected it back on February 18th.  The New Haven man says Goff then blocked his number and wasn’t returning texts.  Fast forward to Tuesday when deputies and Sheriff Weiss descended on Goff’s property with the key fob to Holloway’s missing truck.  After pushing the panic button, the alarm on the truck was set off and officers found the noise coming from a detached out building.  After getting a search warrant, officers were able to reunite Holloway with his vehicle.
