Not So Fast Sonny; 84 Year Old Foils Scam Attempt

A still spry 84-year-old man still has his money despite attempts to defraud he and his wife.  White County Sheriff’s Deputies received the narrative report via telephone Thursday afternoon just after 1pm.  The man, identified only as a Mr. Williams, says he was contacted via phone by an individual who identified himself as a grandson of Williams.  The suspect then said he’d be arrested on a drug charge and put another suspect on the phone identifying himself as a police officer and requesting Williams to provide $9,500 for bond of the grandson.  While telling the attempted scammers he could provide the money, Williams’ wife reached out to the grandson who confirmed he had neither been arrested nor required bond.  No word on how the rest of the conversation went, but we’d like to think it got colorful and/or frustrating for the suspects.
