Norris City Village Board to Pursue Legal Action to Reclaim TIF Money

Rebecca Phillips of AirEvac addressed the board about its service.  They transport people in emergency situations to far-away hospitals for a yearly membership fee of $75, with no additional costs, to families and individuals.  They’ve been serving Norris City residents for several years.  The board tabled the matter until next month’s board meeting so they could see whether enough board members and village employees would be willing to join.

The Norris City Chamber of Commerce has been interested in holding their meetings in the old insurance building that was previously occupied by Chad Mitsdarfer.  Mayor Skip Land and the board members offered the Chamber half the building to meet and the village would be willing to pay the utilities until the end of the year, and then re-evaluate the situation.  Chamber President Emmy Pruitt said they would be interested in taking up the offer and will most likely vote on it in their upcoming Thursday meeting.  If they agree, they will contact the village and make proper arrangements.

In TIF business, the board approved the two agreements drawn up with Johnson Investments for building repairs at a total cost of $37,250; approved the funds to finish up with Lisa’s Attic and Big Inch; and approved $18,880 for Mae Pops Laundry Mat.

The board is looking into the tarring of Cherry Street.

Concerning the salt spreader, the board members approved giving Mayor Land permission to look into possibly purchasing one named “Western”, which is stainless steel with a cover, or going with one from “Salt Dog” that was discussed at last month’s meeting.

The board approved keeping the current village ordinance that prohibits residents from owning chickens on their property.  Only board member McKenzie voted “no”.

The board agreed to donate to the upcoming Golf Scramble by entering a four-member team for the Scramble at a cost of $320.

It was agreed to proceed with legal action to reclaim $17,000 in TIF money from La-D-Da Botique.

Work on the dugouts at the ball fields is continuing and should be ready by the time ball games are to be played in May; and the board approved paying half the cost for a new scoreboard that would say “Beatty Field” on it, as an anonymous person donated the other half of the cost of the scoreboard.

The village is applying for a $324,000 Revitalize Norris City Grant from the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission, or GWRPC, for street and other improvements.

It was agreed that there would be no fee charged for anyone that wants to have anything signed by one of the village’s two Notary Publics.

In the Police report for February, there were eight reports written, two accident reports, five arrests made, 18 traffic stops and warnings, and 13 citations issued, as well as six 9-1-1 calls.  Officer Kody Jones has been working overtime hours to provide extra patrols on Saturdays and Sundays, and has been very busy during these times.

The board adjourned at 8:32 PM.  The next meeting of the Norris City Village Board will be on Monday, April 3rd at 7 PM.
