Norris City Village Board Met Monday Via Conference Call

Danny Woosley addressed the board about the village employee’s health insurance.  After looking at plans from two other companies that would greatly increase premiums, compared with what they have now, he recommended that the board renew their current plan with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois.  The monthly premuim would increase from $12,405 to $13,015, which is an increase of six percent.  The board members unanimously approved Woosley’s recommendation.

They also approved a resolution to sign an agreement with IDOT for resurfacing work on the South Division Street parking areas.  The state will do the work and pay 80% of the cost, then the village will reimburse  the state the other 20% after the project is completed.  Cost to the village is $7,360.

A new jetter, which is a powerful drain cleaning machine that uses high water pressure jets to clean out sewer systems, is needed as the current one is over 30 years old and has lost a lot of its pressure.  The board members agreed to let Mayor Roy Kissel purchase a jetter from the three companies that he received bids from and report back at next month’s meeting.

Approved also was a renewal of the liquor license for Countrymark.

It was agreed that the city-wide rummage sale will be postponed until the first weekend in June and clean-up week will be postponed until the first week of June.

Mayor Kissel stressed the importance of everyone filling out the census so the village can receive all the funds it’s owed.  He said if you have not received a form, you can get one online or call the village office for assistance.

Kissel said the Downstate Small Business Stabilization Program has a grant they can apply for that is worth up to $25,000.  If interested, the village office has the forms if they want to check it out.  If the business is eligible, this program is available to them.

The board adjourned at 7:39 PM.
