Newsies Premieres Friday, November 17th

The Carmi White County Drama Department will put on 3 shows November 17th – 19th.  Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 with a Sunday matinee.  The cast and crew of Newsies gave a preview at Thursday’s Kiwanis meeting in Carmi.  Junior Laney York sets the scene.

“Set in 1899, a news strike if you’re familiar with Joseph Pulitzer, William Hurst, it’s a historical fiction.  It’s based off of something that actually happened.  Pulitzer raises the price of papers sending the newsies into a strike because they can’t afford it.  So, our whole show follows that story line and you’ll have to come to the show to see how it all plays out.”

The actors performed a few songs from the show and are looking forward to carrying the banner next weekend.  Newsies representatives along with director Sherry Passmore will be on WROY’s Open Line Monday morning.

Also featured at the Carmi Kiwanis Club meeting, 3rd grade Most Valuable Bulldogs.  Maverick Slay, Asa Goff, Lillie Wease, Taytem Murray, and Abigail McDaniel were recognized for their outstanding performance this quarter.
