A Grayville man is being held in the White County Jail after being arrested on a White County Warrant Sunday. While on patrol in Maunie Deputy Michael Brown with the WCSD observed 48 year old Phillip Newman go into a residence at 373 Thompson Street and knew that he was wanted on several outstanding warrants including Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Appear on a DUI charge and Criminal Damage to Property for driving through a field and causing damage to crops. Brown had also received a previous report from another incident that Newman was possibly carrying a firearm. Brown entered the front porch area of the residence to try and make contact with Newman and found him hiding behind some items on the floor. Brown advised Neman that he was being placed under arrest. Brown was given consent to search the home by the property owner to look for a firearm but one wasn’t located.
After running Newman’s information it was discovered he was also wanted on a Hamilton County Warrant. He was placed under arrest and transported to the White County Jail. While in custody a Wayne County arrest warrant was served for Obstructing Justice.
Newman appeared in White County court Monday morning via Zoom for a First Appearance. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear for a Preliminary Hearing on May 15th at 10:00 AM
