On Saturday afternoon while on routine patrol, Deputy Michael Brown with the White County Sheriff’s Department observed a gold 1985 Chrysler sedan traveling south on Highway 1 fail to signal when turning onto the I-64 ramp. Brown made contact with the driver, 43 year old Crystal McGillem of Mt Carmel and explained the reason for the stop. Brown requested her insurance, registration and driver license as well as identification from the passenger Christopher McGillem who was in the back seat of the vehicle. McGillem explained to Brown that the turn signal and tail light have been malfunctioning and that new parts have been ordered. Brown ran the information through dispatched and learned that her licensed were suspended out of Indiana. When Brown informed Crystal of the suspended license she said she didn’t know that it was but believed it may have been from an unpaid citation out of Indiana. Brown took Crystal McGillem into custody and transported her to the White County Jail. She is being charged with Failure to signal where required and Driving while License Suspended. McGillem paid $250 bond and was released a few hours later.
