On Friday, March 13, 2020, the Carmi Police Department and White County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting mock “active assailant” scenario drill trainings. The scenarios will take place at three different school buildings at 3 different times. The buildings will include Brownsville Attendance Center at approximately 12:30 pm, Lincoln Attendance Center at approximately 1:30 pm, and the CWC Jr/Sr High School at approximately 2:30 pm. As in the past the students will not be present during this time, as they will be dismissed early from school that day. The teachers from each of the buildings will be present and will participated during the mock drills.
These types of training drills are not only mandated by law but also necessary and important for both Law Enforcement and the Teachers to be as prepared as possible for any type of Lock Down or Active Assailant incident.
Again, there will be no students present during this training exercise and the Carmi Police Department is notifying the public of this training in advance so that the public is aware that this specific date and times specific date and times will be a training exercise only. The public should not be alarmed if they see several law enforcement officers present at the school or hear the calls via dispatchers on the radio frequency during these times.
