Mitchell Talks War Horse Christian School at Carmi Kiwanis Club Thursday

War Horse Christian School in Carmi is continuing it’s slow burn in building and establishing another option for education in the area.  Dr. Caleb Mitchell, who sits on the board at War Horse says the launch of the school two and a half years ago wasn’t about competing with or meant as an indictment of the public school system.

Mitchell himself was homeschooled K – 12 by his mother who is now a first grade teacher at War Horse.  The school launched through an affiliation with New Hope out of Saline County and just this January established itself as a standalone institution.  The namesake comes from Sue Dismang’s former Pre School.  Mitchell says they wanted to keep with that same premise.

Currently, War Horse has 54 total students enrolled in grades ranging from Pre-K through 10th.  Jessica Howard serves as Principal and also teaches high school.  War Horse is completely privately funded through tuition and donations and offers what Mitchell calls a comprehensive, accredited curriculum.  Most of the students are from White County, though a handful come from Hamilton and Gallatin Counties.  Learn more by calling 812-802-1131 or email [email protected].  You can also find the learning center on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088337827041.

Also Thursday at the Carmi Kiwanis Club meeting, we learned it can be expected that a carnival with rides should be back at the 2023 Corn Day Festivities.  Kelly Northcott is finalizing plans and hopes to have them available for 3 days instead of the normal 2.  Additionally, Carmi Kiwanis will host a Father/Daughter Dance this spring.  It’s being planned for April 29th with the location to be named later.  Moreover, the club made recent donations to the Carmi Recreational Summer League and also to Jefferson School for their upcoming Color Run 5K.
