Mill Shoals Leaders Moving Toward Establishing Police Department

The Village of Mill Shoals is moving forward with establishing a formal police department.  According to minutes from the community’s latest meeting, October 19th, board members unanimously voted in favor of implementing the law enforcement agency.  Trustee West was reimbursed just under $5,400 for obtaining a police car on behalf of the rural community.  West says citizens donated to help with the purchase price and West offered up financial disclosures for the board to review.  Village Clerk Heath Tullis is sending in required information for the State of Illinois Training and Standards board for legal institution of the department.

Additionally Thursday, the board agreed to borrow $160,000 from Peoples National Bank to help fund and cover water infrastructure costs.  That money is so the village can pay contractors for their services during the emergency water main repair.  Grant funds from USDARD and money from the White County Energy Transition Grant are expected to offset that investment.

Finally, Mill Shoals will renew its contract with Wayne Carter as Water Operator for the village by unanimous vote.

Mills Shoals leaders will next gather on Tuesday, November 7th.
