According to the ASPCA, about 6.3 million companion animals enter US animal shelters every year. Nearly 15% of them never make it out and eventually get euthanized. Through a partnership between Pets @ Risk and White County Animal Control, the pound will be open this Saturday, February 25th from 9 – noon to give folks an opportunity to visit and adopt available dogs. There are currently seven dogs behind bars at the pound. Five of them are available immediately; two will come off stray hold on Monday. Two of the dogs have been in the facility for over a month and one of them is nearing two months. When being adopted, animals must be microchipped and given a rabies shot before being adopted. Pets @ Risk is available to assist with neuter or spay fees as needed. The White County Pound is located on County Road 1000 East, across from Burrells Woods. Appointments can be made to meet animals available for adoption by calling Steve with White County Animal Control at 618-384-8306.
