State police investigated an accident Friday night that involved a McLeansboro motorist. According to reports, the accident occurred on I-57 northbound at milepost 112.5 near the Nations Road overpass south of Salem. Police said 41-year-old John Heil of McLeansboro, IL was driving a vehicle and failed to slow down, hitting the rear of a car driven by 57-year-old Debra Kaczur of Centralia, IL. Both vehicles spun out following the impact, with Heil’s car hitting a guardrail and overturning. He was extricated from the wreckage and transported by helicopter with what were described as life-threatening injuries. Kaczur was taken to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries. The accident was reported around 6 p.m. Friday.
