Maunie Man Arrested after Firing Bow; Assaulting Woman

White County Sheriff Deputies were assisted by the Illinois State Police, Conservation Police, and the Carmi PD K9 unit in response to a call that a female had been shot at with a compound bow and then assaulted.

Stephanie Graham advised police when they arrived at the residence in Maunie that Eric Vessels had pointed a compound bow at a family member before turning it at her and discharging it, missing her and striking the wall. Vessels then attacked Graham, hitting her multiple times in the head with his hands and feet.

During the investigation, a broad head arrow was found in the wall, a compound bow and a broken arrow and quiver were seized from the residence.

Graham was taken to Eldorado Hospital for her injuries, and after a lengthy search of the area, Vessels was discovered and taken into custody.

Vessels is being charged with Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Reckless Conduct.
